Education: Dr. Thomas C. Wolf graduated from Oklahoma State University in December 1974. He obtained his undergraduate degree in pre-medical studies and sociology. He was honored to be captain of the 1974 Fiesta Bowl Champion Football Cowboys.
He later attended the University of Oklahoma Medical School, graduating in 1980. This was followed by both an internship and later residency at the Dean A. McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City. He spent an additional year in subspecialty training at the world-renowned Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Fla.
He initially entered private practice but later accepted a position at the Dean A. McGee Institute where he was the director of the Cornea and External Disease Department Fellowship Program and Stephenson Laser Center until 2001. He re-entered private practice and established the first Eye-M.D. practice in Mustang in 2003.
Tell us about your business: We are a multi-physician multi-location vision, medical and surgical eye care practice serving the greater Oklahoma City metropolitan area. We provide comprehensive and total eye care including routine eye examinations, medical consultations and surgical consultations as required.
Why did you locate in Mustang? I had the pleasure of co-partnering with Ken Butler, Mustang's first eyeglass leader, who has owned and operated Mustang Optical for the past 25-plus years. Having the opportunity to work with someone of Butler's stature, as well as being the “first” eye-M.D. practice in the Mustang area has been a true joy.
What do you think is most unique about your business? There are several factors. First, we are the only true eye-M.D. clinic in the Mustang-Yukon area offering full scope service. Secondly, we offer extended evening hours, Lastly, we are affiliated with the original optical leader, Mustang Optical, that has been part of the community for 25-plus years.
What is the best advice you have ever received? “Luck is when preparedness meets opportunity.” Our practices have always attempted to serve central Oklahomans within their communities for convenience and continuity for ongoing care closest to their places of business and residence.
What made you want to go into this profession? I was always interested in a professional healthcare career. I became dedicated to pursuing an M.D. degree while in college and during medical school chose ophthalmology.
Ophthalmology is a very unique field where you can perform surgery, see patients in hospital settings and provide comprehensive outpatient and office services. It is also one of the most rapidly advancing technologically proficient fields within medicine.
What do you want customers to remember most about you? That they were treated with great respect and were provided timely and professional eye care services.
Tell us about your family: I have a mixed marriage. Specifically, despite being a former Oklahoma State athlete, I married a University of Oklahoma Sooner in 1980. We have been blessed with two wonderful girls, the oldest of whom has completed her first semester at the University of Texas — a Longhorn, can you believe it? Our youngest is currently in her last year as an eighth-grader at Westminster Schools in Oklahoma City and will enter Heritage Hall High School next year.
Our family enjoys yearly trips together to large cities, and my children are involved in the usual sports and recreational activities, which keeps them and all of us very busy.
